Community Chinese Reading Project 2014-2018
Community Chinese Reading Project
The Community Chinese Reading Project is a joint initiative between the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC),Singapore Loving and Giving Society and Reading Clubs to hold reading activities beyond the classroom. Tapping on the existing network of Reading Ambassadors in schools and volunteers, mini- libraries were set up at CDAC centres to facilitate reading activities at weekends. Apart from drawing children into the wonderful world of books, the project also aims to provide an accessible platform in the community for both parents and children to come together and reap the benefits of reading.
CDAC @ Tanjong Katong, Punggol, Toa Payoh, Jurong West, Tampines and Woodlands conduct Guided Reading Activities, which are managed by Reading Ambassadors and volunteers. Other programmes include Parent-Child Bonding Workshop and Reading Workshop for Children which have received encouraging responses.
